Fully hydrated Chinese hamster ovarian cell in its native culturing condition (without fixation and without staining) as seen with QX Technology. Electron dense material, nuclei and some cytoplasmic structures are brighter while less dense material, lipid droplets, are dark.

Lipid accumulation in 3T3-L1 preadipocytes
With QX-technology, many lipid structures are visualized without any enhancement. Differentiating 3T3-L1 cells were fixed with 1.5% GA and imaged unstained at following times; Left: day 0 (undifferentiated cells), Middle: day 3, Right: day 6. Black spheres are accumulating lipids in droplets.
