General:
This EMS Xylene Substitute solution is specially designed for use in processing and staining histological/cytological specimens. It is essentially odorless with low toxicity, less irritating to the skin than xylene- and d-limonene-based clearants. It can be substituted for xylene and can be used with almost all tissue processors and automated slide stainers.
Clearing Procedure:
Most specimens may be processed with the same procedure used with xylene. If deparafinization is not complete, processing time may be increased.
Drying Time:
While EMS Xylene Substitute will dry faster then D-limonene products, it will generally take longer than xylene. To accelerate this process, it is recommended that slides be allowed to stand on edge for 2-5 minutes to allow the solution to drain off. To insure that all residual EMS Xylene Substitute is removed, tap edge of slide prior to coverslipping.
Note: Any EMS Xylene Substitute remains on the slide after coverslipping will dry completely without leaving any residue.
Heat Application:
Do not use EMS Xylene Substitute with heat applications.
Mounting Media & EMS Xylene-Subs Compatibility:
Use this EMS Xylene Substitute with a mounting medium that is compatible with xylene. The table below indicates compatibility of EMS Xylene-Subtitute with available mounting media. Failure to use a compatible mounting media may result in clouding of the specimens.
Precaution:
EMS Xylene Substitute is a flammable liquid and an aspiration hazard. May cause eyes, skin and respiratory tract irritation.
Storage: Store EMS Xylene Substitute at room temperature in a cool place
Limitations:
In extremely humid environments, EMS Xylene-Substitute may absorb moisture from the air. More frequent changes may be necessary.
