Alcoholic Congo Red Solution

Staining Protocol
- Deparaffinize and hydrate to distilled water.
- Stain in filtered Congo Red, 1% Aqueous for 1 hour.
Note: If using a microwave, stain in Congo Red, 1% Aqueous for 25 seconds. The hot stain jar is removed from the oven and should sit at room temperature for 1 minute.
- Rinse in distilled water.
- Quickly differentiate in Alkaline Alcohol.
- Wash in running tap water for approximately 5 minutes.
- Counterstain in Mayer's Acid Hemalum for approximately 5 minutes.
Note: If using a microwave, oven-stain for 30 seconds.
- Wash in running tap water for 15 minutes.
- Dehydrate and clear through 95% ethyl (absolute alcohol changes each), 2 minutes each.
- Mount using resinous medium.
