The upgraded Supa Mega Mother Ship V2 allows the use of a variety of standard tissue processing cassettes to clearly print a 2D barcode and test information, thus eliminating the potential risks associated with hand writing on cassettes.
Supa Mega Mother Ship cassettes are designed using a docking area for standard processing of cassettes. They have a strong hex pore structure which improves processing for large specimens.
FeaturesThe Supa Mega Mother Ship Cassette consists of a base and lid and a slotted donor cassette.
Use a standard cassette writer to print on the donor cassette before inserting into Mother Ship.
Insert the donor cassette into the Mother Ship and continue to apply pressure until the cassette "Clicks" and is locked in place. Only after hearing the "Click" is the donor cassette fully secured.
The donor cassette is printed on a standard cassette writer prior to being locked into place in the Supa Mega Mother Ship Cassette. Once the donor cassette has been inserted into the Supa Mega Mother Ship Cassette, continue to apply pressure until a click is heard. Now the donor cassette is fully secured.
It is recommended that the tissue specimen be grossed to 5 mm thickness. The standard processing protocol can then be followed. Supa Mega Mother Ship cassettes are suitable for use in common tissue processing reagents including formalin, Bouin's solution, alcohol solutions, xylene, chloroform, citrus based cleaning agents, and paraffin wax. The cassettes can also be used in both traditional and overnight tissue processors (including microwave tissue processors). A Supa Mega base mold or Supa Mega Mother Ship stainless steel base mold can be used for embedding. Supa Mega Mother Ship base molds reduce the time taken to case a large specimen wax block (30 minutes at -8° C).
When using blocks made from the Supa Mega Mother Ship Base 8 mm-depth mold (Catalog #62354-61), the Leica RM 2200 Series Microtome needs a slight modification to the knife holder. Simply remove the 1.4 mm thick black plastic cover from the knife holder base by using a small flat head screwdriver. The plastic cover actually covers a recess for an optional lighting system for the microtome. Once this cover is removed and the chuck returned to zero orientation, the super cassette chuck can move without hitting the knife holder base and the 8 mm block can be sectioned.
If the plastic cover is not removed, it is recommended that only the standard Supa Mega Stainless Steel Base Mold 60 x 45 x 15 mm (Catalog #62354-60) be used for embedment.
The table below shows the recommended molds for the major microtomes on the market.
