Copper shot is good as long as it retains a metallic luster. If a dull oxide film forms discard the Copper Shot or clean by immersing in 30% Nitric Acid (30ml of conc. Nitric Acid added slowly and carefully to 70ml of distilled water) until the surface film or oxides is removed. The Copper will be bright in color and all dark areas of oxide removed. Rinse quickly in D-H20, several changes, followed by one or two changes of alcohol or acetone. Dry in a low temperature (approx. 500°C) oven for 15-30 minutes. Store in a tightly sealed bottle.
